The programs will be conducted by Monica Lursen and Janine Johnson, RN, WHC Diabetes Nurse Educator.
This program, part of the ongoing diabetes education outreach program offered by WHC, is free and open to the public. Participants should park in the Red Lot and enter through the Tendrils Rooftop Garden event entrance, located south of the Center Pharmacy drive-up. Health Screenings
Waverly Health Center periodically offers health screenings at which four testing procedures are available for minimal fees:
Health Screen
, $15, includes a diabetes screen, kidney function screen, liver enzymes and lipid profile.
Lipid Profile
, $12, measuring triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL and LDL.
Hemoglobin
, $4, iron level.
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA)
, $10, early screening test for prostate cancer.
Health Screen or Lipid Profile participants should fast for 12 hours prior to the testing and avoid caffeine products. Individuals who are fasting may have sips of water and take medications on normal schedule.
Prostate cancer can often be found early by testing the amount of Prostate-Specific Antigen in a man’s blood. The PSA is one component in screening for prostate cancer; additional testing should be completed by primary care physicians. The American Cancer Society believes that health care professionals should offer a yearly prostate cancer screening to men, beginning at age 50. Men at high risk, such as African Americans and men who have a first-degree relative diagnosed with prostate cancer at an early age should begin testing at age 45.
The next health screenings are scheduled for
Friday, September 25 from 7-9 a.m. in the General Surgery & Women's Clinic
. Participants should park in the Orange parking lot and enter through the Orange entrance. No appointments are necessary. Results will be mailed to participants.
