Activity Cart: A variety of activities and games are available for patients and visitors.
Aromatherapy: WHC offers aromatherapy through trained staff for hospital and surgery patients. Scents available are lavender, peppermint, nausea relief synergy, revitalize synergy and rebalance synergy. Each individual scent has its own unique effect on a person's mood, ability to rest and overall comfort.
Art Cart: Hospital patients may choose artwork for their room from a selection of traditional and contemporary art.
Care Partner: The Care Partner program is a way to involve a family member or close friend as a member of your health care team. This program is designed to improve your stay by allowing your loved one to learn about and help your recovery. A Care Partner is a person selected by you to participate in your care. Areas of involvement may include: communication with your health care team, emotional support, patient and family education, spiritual needs and physical assistance.
Community Advisory Council: The purpose of the community advisory council is to engage community members in the goals and projects of the health center. People interested in becoming a member of the council may call (319) 483-4075.
Community Health Resource Library: The Community Health Resource Library is available for use by patients, visitors and community members, all day, every day. It is located on the 3rd floor of the Centennial Pavilion near the nurses' station. The library is home to a variety of health resources including user-friendly medical books, health magazines and journals, educational pamphlets and on-line resources. By filling out a membership form, materials can be checked out for two weeks.
Family Kitchen: In order to make your stay as comfortable as possible, a Family Kitchen is available for your family to prepare or store foods and drinks for themselves or for you, the patient. If the food is being prepared for a patient, the family should check with nursing staff for any special dietary restrictions.
Healing Environment: We offer private patient rooms, relaxing lounges and elements of nature built into the design of the Centennial Pavilion to create a comfortable healing environment.
Massage Therapy: For some patients, having a massage while in the hospital can be very comforting. Daily patient massages are free.
Meditation Room: A meditation room with spirital resources is available on the 3rd floor of the Centennial Pavilion. Mental Health & Grief Counseling: WHC’s licensed independent social worker and certified grief counselor provides counseling services upon patient request or physician referral to individuals who could benefit from mental health intervention and education. In circumstances that warrant grief counseling, individual counseling and programs/workshops are available to assist patients with grief issues and related needs.
Music Therapy and Relaxation Music: WHC’s music therapist visits patients to promote relaxation and healing through music.
Open Medical Records and Patient Communication Notes: One of the most valuable learning resources available during your hospital stay is your own medical record. We encourage patients to read their own medical records. In addition, you can use the patient communication notes to communicate with your medical team.
Patient Ambassadors: Volunteers visit inpatients on weekdays to talk about hospital services. They are also available to read, help open mail and provide other services.
Patient Gift Bags: Free toiletry and personal items are provided for each hospital patient. These items have been selected to make your stay more comfortable.
Personal Health Information Books: We encourage everyone to keep their own record of their health care services. This book is designed to help you keep track of your health and wellness throughout your lifetime.
Prayer Hotline: Prayer requests may be left for patients and staff by calling (319) 483-4880. The prayer hotline is checked twice daily, seven days a week with the requests sent out to the Prayer Team. Some members of the Prayer Team are available to pray with patients and staff one-on-one as requested.
Room Service Meals: Room service provides the opportunity to order meals when it is most convenient for you. You will be given a menu that matches your current diet order. You may order at any time by calling *4663. The tray will be delivered within 30 to 45 minutes unless you request a specific delivery time. Nutrition services and nursing staff are able to provide assistance with ordering meals.
Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP): SHIIP can help you find answers to the important questions you have about Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance and other health insurance issues. SHIIP is a free and confidential service available at WHC. You may call (319) 483-1300 to set up an appointment.
Spiritual Support: WHC recognizes your right to spiritual support. If you need assistance notifying the spiritual support person of your choice, please contact your nurse.
Tendrils Rooftop Garden and Community Arts Pavilion: Patients and visitors are encouraged to use WHC’s rooftop garden as an area to relax and enjoy a bit of nature. The rooftop garden is accessible by taking elevator C to the 4th floor.
Treat Trolley: Each weekday, the treat trolley visits the green entrance lobby and the Centennial Pavilion nurses’ station. A variety of snack options are available.
Visitors: Patients may have visitors 24 hours per day.
Volunteer Baking: During your stay you may be visited by one of our volunteer bakers. They use the Family Kitchen to prepare fresh baked goods for patients, families and visitors. They make their rounds in the afternoons and early evenings with cookies, muffins and other treats. |
