 Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to help people with cardiovascular disease improve their health and quality of living. The emphasis is on aerobic activity to improve cardiovascular fitness and may also include muscle strengthening and flexibility. During the rehabilitation sessions, heart rhythms are continuously monitored and blood pressures are measured before, during and after each exercise session.

Waverly Health Center’s cardiac rehab is a “Phase 2” program. This means it is a supervised outpatient program that includes exercise, life-style changes, education and emotional support for people who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery or other heart problems. This program is medically supervised and individually designed to enhance your quality of life.

Cardiac rehab is for men and women of all ages. You can benefit if you have or had:
  • Stable angina
  • Heart attack
  • Bypass/valve surgery
  • Balloon catheter (PTCA)
  • Stent placement
  • Heart transplant

Being part of cardiac rehab is simple. Your physician will sign a doctor’s order for you to participate. The cardiac rehab staff contacts you to schedule your initial appointment. The sessions are approximately one hour, meeting either two or three days per week. The program usually lasts for four to twelve weeks depending on the participant’s activity level.

Cardiac rehab is a service provided and billed by Waverly Health Center. Medicare and most major medical insurance carriers will pay a portion of the cost. Each individual should contact his or her insurance company to determine coverage.

Cardiac rehab is a safe and effective way to help you:
  • Feel better faster and return to important life activities
  • Reduce stress
  • Increase overall strength and endurance
  • Reduce risks of future heart problems
  • Incorporate regular exercise into an everyday lifestyle

WHC offers a full range of exercise and monitoring equipment, as well as an expert team of caregivers that includes registered nurses specially trained in cardiac rehab, nutrition and diabetes educators, pharmacists and a social worker.
