Four members of the Waverly Health Center (WHC) team have been named June Spotlight on Values award winners. Nominated by co-workers, patients and members of the community, these individuals are examples of WHC’s values in action.
Julia Palestrina and Sheila Fox, both of Waverly, medical-surgical, were recognized for the value of compassion. Julia and Sheila helped make a patients 58th wedding anniversary more special. Their nominator commented, “Julia came in on her day off to deliver flowers and a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne. Sheila took lead on getting medical-surgical staff to sign an anniversary card for the couple.”
Cindy Shoemaker of Nashua, emergency department, was recognized for the value of excellence. Cindy was just getting to the end of her shift, but an emergent need presented with ambulance. Her nominator continued, “Cindy immediately volunteered because she knew the patient needed additional care. She put her personal life on hold for our department.”
Dr. Michele Martins of Waverly, Women’s Clinic, received WHC’s Quarterly Provider Spotlight on Values Award. Dr. Martins recently assisted with an emergency C-section to ensure the best outcome for mom and baby. Her nominator stated, “Michele’s response and attendance was above and beyond.”
WHC has adopted six values which include compassion, enthusiasm, excellence, innovation, integrity and leadership. The Spotlight on Values program recognizes WHC employees, volunteers and physicians for demonstrating these values. Patients, visitors and employees are encouraged to submit nominations for the WHC Spotlight on Values honors. Nominations can be submitted online or at any Spotlight on Values ballot boxes placed throughout the health center.
