Five members of the Waverly Health Center (WHC) team have been named August Spotlight on Values award winners. Nominated by co-workers, patients and members of the community, these individuals are examples of WHC’s values in action.
Annette Jurgensen of Waterloo, business office, was recognized for the value of compassion. Annette helped a patient’s family member who was confused and worried. Her nominator commented, “The gentleman was so thankful for her.”
Jessica Peterson of Parkersburg, business office, was recognized for the value of excellence. Jessica’s nominator said, “Jessica goes out of her way to provide the best possible patient care.”
Joe Harper of Plainfield, plant services, was recognized for the value of innovation. Joe recently saw an opportunity for improvement outside of his department. His nominator said, “Joe took the initiative to do this very kind and thoughtful task for our department.”
Sara Kulick of Waverly, emergency department, was recognized for the value of integrity. Sara took extra measures to ensure a non-English speaking patient fully understood their care. Her nominator continued, “Sara showed great persistence because of her concern for her patient.”
Derrick Wygle of Waverly, emergency department, was recognized for the value of leadership. Derek’s quick action with a patient led to a great outcome. His patient commented, “Thanks to nurse Wygle I was transferred by ambulance at midnight and was on the schedule for implanting stents at 8 a.m. I had two stents inserted – one to open an artery that was 99% blocked and one that was 85% blocked. I have been undergoing Cardiac Rehab and am now doing very well. Thank you Derek Wygle!”
WHC has adopted six values which include compassion, enthusiasm, excellence, innovation, integrity and leadership. The Spotlight on Values program recognizes WHC employees, volunteers and physicians for demonstrating these values. Patients, visitors and employees are encouraged to submit nominations for the WHC Spotlight on Values honors. Nominations can be submitted online or at any Spotlight on Values ballot boxes placed throughout the health center.
