Waverly Health Center (WHC) will host a monthly Alzheimer’s/Dementia Music Therapy and Caregiver Support Group on Tuesday, June 5. The event will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Tendrils Rooftop Garden on the WHC campus.
Sally Timmer, Alzheimer’s Association, will present “Effective Communication Strategies.” This program for caregivers will cover:
- the communication changes that take place throughout the course of Alzheimer’s disease.
- how to understand the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and how to respond to these messages.
- strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
Caregivers are encouraged to bring their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia to share in a separate music therapy session. The session will include singing, reminiscing and playing instruments led by WHC’s board-certified music therapist. No musical background is needed.
This event is free and open to all. Please park in the Red Lot and enter through the Tendrils Rooftop Garden event entrance, located south of the Center Pharmacy drive-up.
