This year, Through with Chew week will be observed February 18 through February 22. Through with Chew (TWC) week takes place every year to raise awareness about the negative health effects of chewing tobacco and snuff and help people quit.
Chewing tobacco and snuff are often advertised as a way to help someone quit smoking but there is no proof that this works. Chewing tobacco and snuff contain close to 30 cancer-causing chemicals which can cause cancers of the mouth, throat, and esophagus. These chemicals can also be linked to many other health issues such as heart disease, dental problems, and pre-cancerous mouth sores.
Chewing tobacco and snuff are not safe alternatives to smoking cigarettes. There are many methods that are proven to help tobacco users quit such as, nicotine patches and gum, medication, and tobacco cessation counseling.
