June is all about the guys! Since 1994, the month of June has been declared Men’s Health Month. Here are some tips for helping men stay on top of their health this year:
- Prevention is important: In general, men see their healthcare provider much less than women. Many health conditions are preventable and prevention starts with visiting a doctor for a physical. - Get moving: The health benefits of physical activity have been proven time and time again. - Mental health matters: Men are less likely to seek help for things like depression, anxiety, substance abuse and stressful events. Mental health is just as important as physical health. These screening tools can help you learn about what you need to support your mental well-being.
- Be safe in the sun: Men spend more time outdoors and are less likely to wear sunscreen than women . Long sleeved shirts, pants and wide brimmed hats work best to protect skin from the sun. Make sure to apply sunscreen to all other parts of the body that are not covered by a hat or clothing.
