Accreditation & Quality

Joint Commission

Joint Commission accreditation indicates that a facility meets stringent performance standards and is committed to continuously improving the safety and quality of its care. WHC is Joint Commission accredited for all hospital and clinic services, laboratory and durable medical equipment.

Since its founding by a patient in 1978, Planetree has defined what it means to be patient-centered. Planetree’s philosophy is based on a simple premise: care should be organized first and foremost around the needs of patients. Waverly Health Center was the 9th hospital in the world to become a Planetree Designated® patient-centered hospital. In 2015, WHC obtained re-designation.

 Magnet Recognition

The Magnet Recognition Program® was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to recognize healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence and to disseminate successful nursing practices and strategies. The Magnet program was based on findings from a 1983 study conducted by the American Academy of Nursing’s Task Force on Nursing Practice in Hospitals, which identified 14 characteristics that created an environment conducive to attracting and retaining well-qualified nurses who promoted quality care. These 14 characteristics became known as the “Forces of Magnetism.” WHC obtained Magnet Recognition in August 2014 and is the first independent Critical Access Hospital to earn the designation.
