Cardiovascular Services

Our cardiovascular services is recognized by both the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) for meeting and exceeding national standards for non-invasive vascular and echocardiography testing.

Services

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart to check for the following:

  • Heart size
  • Pumping strength
  • Heart muscle damage
  • Heart valve problems
  • Structural abnormalities
  • Blood clots

How is it done? You will lie down on your side or back. A technician will put gel on a probe and move it over your chest area. Your heart’s movements will then be seen on a screen. There is no preparation for the exam and there are no side effects. The test may take up to one hour.

Carotid Doppler

A carotid doppler is an ultrasound of the carotid arteries which are located in the neck and supply blood to the brain. We will check for the following:

  • Plaque build-up
  • Blood clots
  • Stenosis (Narrowing of a duct, tube or one of the heart valves. Or, narrowing of a passage or opening in the body.)

How is it done? You will lie down in a bed on your back. A technician will put gel on a probe and move it along the sides of your neck. There is no preparation for the exam and there are no side effects. The test may take up to one hour.

Arterial Study

An arterial study is done to see if you have poor circulation or a blood clot in your arteries in your arms or legs.

How is it done?
Poor Circulation: A technician will put gel on a probe and press on different areas of your legs or arms to get signals from your arteries. Blood pressure cuffs may be placed on your arms or legs to take your blood pressure. You may be asked to walk on a treadmill to recreate the symptoms you may be experiencing with walking. There is no preparation for the exam and there are no side effects. The test may take up to an hour.

Blood Clot: A technician will put gel on a probe and press on different areas of your legs or arms to see if there is a blood clot. We will also check for narrowing or occlusion. There is no preparation for the exam and there are no side effects. The test may take up to an hour.

Venous Study

A venous study is done to see how the valves in your veins are working or to check for a blood clot in your veins in your arms or legs.

How is it done?
A technician will put gel on a probe and press on different areas of your legs or arms to get signals from your veins. There is no preparation for the exam and there are no side effects. The test may take up to an hour.
