Waverly Health Center is celebrating the success of the 40th vNOTES surgery by Dr. Emily Boevers, OB-GYN. Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, or vNOTES, is the recommended approach by both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
In addition to hysterectomies, vNOTES can be used to treat other gynecologic conditions such as pelvic pain, heavy periods or a pelvic organ prolapse.
“vNOTES incorporates a minimally invasive approach with great visibility. A vaginal approach allows me to do more complex surgeries,” said Dr. Boevers. vNOTES typically results in less post-operative pain and a faster recovery. There is no visible scarring and, overall, patients tend to have great surgical outcomes.
Dr. Boevers was the first surgeon in the state of Iowa to offer vNOTES. “I was fortunate to be able to bring this technique to Waverly Health Center,” she said. “It is a great new approach in gynecology.”
