In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Waverly Health Center (WHC) will offer “Moonlight Mammogram” screenings. Women and men can take advantage of evening appointments on Wednesday, October 9 and 23 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The Moonlight Mammogram screenings are part of WHC’s ongoing commitment to meeting local health needs and providing high-quality care. The additional hours will provide a convenient alternative to traditional daytime appointments for those balancing busy schedules.
“By offering these additional screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hope to make it easier for people to take proactive steps and recognize the importance of breast health. Advances in early detection and treatment methods have significantly increased breast cancer survival rates in recent years, and there are currently over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States,” stated Emily Schut, WHC breast care navigator. “Early detection is key, so it’s important to perform yearly mammograms.”
The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends women begin annual mammograms at age 40, or sooner for those with risk factors. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the five-year relative survival rate is 99 percent according to the American Cancer Society.
