Emergency services at Waverly Health Center includes an emergency department and ambulance team.
The emergency department (ED) is staffed by a doctor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This round-the-clock coverage ensures our patients have a high level of care at all times of the day. During our busiest times, nurse practitioners and physician assistants work with our doctors.
When You Arrive - When you arrive at the ED, you will be asked for some basic information to complete your registration. Everyone who comes to our ED will be seen, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay.
Triage - We use a process called triage to determine which patients are the sickest and need the fastest medical attention. For this reason, it is possible that patients who come in after you may be seen first. If there is a delay, please be aware that we know you are here and will see you as quickly as possible.
Tests - Medical tests are an essential tool in helping us understand how to help you. The tests can take up to several hours to be performed, processed and analyzed.
Consultants - If your doctor feels it is necessary, he or she may call your family doctor or a specialist to discuss your care.
Going Home - Once you are treated, your doctor or nurse will give you information on how to care for yourself at home. It is very important to follow these instructions.
Our ambulance team provides critical care services to Butler and Bremer Counties. Two units are staffed at all times, with a third available if needed. Our team members have training in a variety of specializations, including Critical Care Paramedic Certification, aggressive behavior management and hazardous materials operations.
We have also received provisional critical care transportation designation. This designation means we can provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, emergency surgery and stabilization, and care for trauma cases with admission to the hospital if necessary. The hospital can also arrange transportation to a higher-level trauma center if necessary.
