Bill Galligan of Waverly never imagined that a needle could fix his pain and stiffness, but it did. After years of working hard, Bill had a lot of pain and tightness in his shoulders and neck. He decided he wanted to try physical therapy and went to Ron Ragsdale, DPT, with Taylor Physical Therapy Associates at Waverly Health Center for his care.
Ron recommended Bill start with dry needling. “After two or three dry needling sessions, the stiffness and pain in my shoulders were gone.” Bill commented.
Dry needling is used for the treatment of muscle pain, arthritis, nerve irritation, muscle strain, poor work posture, running injuries and herniated discs. It involves placing a small needle (microfilament) into the trigger point (muscle knot). The goal of dry needling is to release muscle tension, improve pain and restore motion and function.
Bill commented, “It worked so well for my shoulders that I wanted to try it for my lower back. I always had a lot of stiffness in my back when I first got up in the morning. I would try to stretch, but it wouldn’t loosen up. After Ron used dry needling to treat my lower back, the stiffness was gone.”
“Ron was great at explaining the process. I understood each step and I didn’t think the needling was painful. I felt such relief after it was done. It worked great for my lower back, so we decided to use it for my hips, lower legs and feet. I now enjoy walking again without pain.”
Bill highly recommends dry needling to anyone with muscle pain and stiffness. “Just get it done! Don’t wait until the pain is horrible. I tell many people how great it is because it’s amazing what the procedure can accomplish.”
