For Cathy Walston, Waverly Health Center had been the clear choice for her health care. After her husband’s recent bike crash sent him to the ED, the care her family received became even more personal.
Cathy first came to WHC to treat a torn meniscus. She needed to get a knee scope and this gave her a first-hand look at the surgery complex.
“The surgery staff was very friendly and calming. They were also very professional. The care I received felt personal and I was very comfortable there,” Cathy said.
What she could not predict was that a later incident with her husband would send her back to WHC, but this time to the ED.
“My husband had a bike crash that involved him being transported to the WHC ED and then on to the University of Iowa Hospital. While giving him the care he needed, staff kept me well informed of decisions that were being made and why.”
Through a hard time, Cathy felt certain that she was choosing the best health care for her family. “It seems obvious to me that with all that has been invested in WHC in recent years, it is a progressive hospital that strives to give the most up-to-date care for patients.”
Cathy said that while all of the staff made her feel comfortable, Dr. Todd Shover, ED, made the experience even more positive for both her and her husband. “Dr. Shover was very kind and sensitive to any anxiety I was having. At the same time, he gave excellent care to my husband.”
Cathy concluded, “I always felt involved in my care. Each caregiver was kind and conveyed a sense of sincere caring and wanting to make the experience a positive one.”
